History Martec Today Mission Statement

Company History

In 1950 Carl F. Ewig gave up his job in Germany, as the Executive Director of the BLG - Bremer Lagerhaus-Gesellschaft, moved his family to the United states and began the process of representing predominately German interests in the United States.

In August of 1957, the firm Carl F. Ewig, Inc. was incorporated and the representations of various liner operators, Martec companies (Martec International), port authorities and insurance underwriters continued under his direction.

Today's Chairman of the Board, Thomas A. Ewig, his son, assumed the leadership role in 1974 and began to alter the focus of the company from an agency representing only the interests of others to one of product distribution and Martec, while maintaining a strong public relations organization.

In 1974, Thomas A. Ewig assumed the reigns of leadership from his father Carl and began to diversify the direction of growth that would ultimately lead Martec International to its position today in the intermodal industry.

In 1980, Martec International began to expand nationwide. Thomas A. Ewig, now the company's Chief Executive Officer, began to realize his vision to create a 'supermarket' for marine container and intermodal repair parts.

From an agency representing only the interests of others to one of intermodal product distribution, Martec's solid growth and expansion laid the foundation to become the premier intermodal parts and service distributor in the continental Unites States and Latin America.
